Field Methods for Rodent Studies in Asia and the Indo-Pacific - New!
K P Aplin, P B Brown, J Jacob, C J Krebs & G R Singleton, (2003). "Field Methods for Rodent Studies in Asia and the Indo-Pacific" ACIAR Monograph No. 100, 223p, Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research, Canberra.
Over the past decade rodents have emerged as significant agricultural pests throughout Southeast Asia. This book summarises current knowledge of the 20+ rodents that are major agricultural pests in SE Asia as well as other non-pest rodents. Its clear descriptions and illustrations will help people identify these species. For each one there is a summary of geographic distribution, diet, habits and behaviour. The book includes practical instructions on trapping methods, safe handling of rats and mice, and techniques for assessing reproductive activity. The book can be downloaded on the Web from ACIAR.
Rats, Mice and People: Rodent Biology and Management
Singleton, G. R., Hinds, L. A., Krebs, C. J., and Spratt, D.M., eds. (2003) "Rats, mice and people: rodent biology and management." ACIAR Monograph No. 96, 564p. Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research, Canberra.
This book is available for $AUD 50.00 including postage. The cost to developing countries will be discounted. The book can also be downloaded on the Web from ACIAR.
Ecologically-Based Rodent Management
Singleton, G. R., Hinds, L. A, Leirs, H., and Zhang, Z., eds. (1999). "Ecologically-based rodent management." ACIAR Monograph No. 59, 494 pp, Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research, Canberra.
This book consists of contributions from authors drawn from 17 countries. It focuses on the concept of ecologically-based management of rodent pests and is divided into three sections: "Basic research", "Methods of management" and "Case studies from Asia and Africa". This is in recognition of the growing demands, particularly in developing countries, for rodent control strategies that have less reliance on chemical rodenticides or better targeting of their use.
This book is available from ACIAR for $45 (AUD). Complimentary copies of the book are available to researchers, libraries and institutions in developing countries. If you believe you may be eligible to receive a free copy, contact rodent-inquiries@csiro.au.
