Some members of this Board are briefly profiled below.

Andrew Fielke

Andrew Fielke is an award winning Adelaide chef with 29 years international experience including Switzerland, Austria and London’s Savoy Hotel. His passion for Australia’s overlooked native food resources since 1985 has led to him pioneering a “Creative Native Australian Cuisine”. He refined his craft using amazing 40,000-year-old ingredients to create wonderful dishes, utilising the unique textures and stunning flavours of nutritious nuts, seeds, fruits and herbs like Lemon Myrtle and Quandong.

Andrew founded the successful and internationally renown Red Ochre Restaurant’s, but now works as a consulting/guest chef, regularly invited all over the world. He also develops numerous new commercial food products and as a TV Chef, presents Australian Food & Wine segments on the ABC’s Asia Pacific Satellite Channel. His latest venture, Pro Chef Golf Tours & Events combines his great passion for food, wine and golf.

Lindsay Boyd

Lindsay Boyd is the managing director of Finger Limeing Good Pty Limited, a company that specialises in development, growing, processing and marketing of finger limes, davidson plums and other Australian fruits.

Since 1996 Lindsay together with his partner Jamie have been involved in research and development activities surrounding selection of appropriate finger lime species for generation of large scale commercial production capabilities; effectively, moving outside “cottage based” production approaches that appear the dominant paradigm.

Lindsay has an extensive parallel career in implementation of corporate restructuring and venture development globally and has worked actively in all industrial sectors including marketing and agri-business within end to end supply chains. Lindsay retains a strong interest in the structuring and operation of supply chains that bring growers and their customers together for mutually beneficial relationships.

Chris Reed

Chris Reed's background in essential oil research and development led him to a project examining the physiology and biochemistry of Tasmannia lanceolata, partly funded by RIRDC and directed towards developing a commercial flavouring product from the leaf of the plant.

From there it was a short jump to forming a small business coordinating wild harvest of leaf and berry for food use, which has now moved to a more commercial footing with cultivation selections under irrigation and gradual improvements in processing and handling.

He is a farmer, producing Dutch Iris for the cut flower market, and essential oils. He recently launched a tourism-based enterprise on the farm – a restaurant, small scale distillery and farm walks and picnics. He hopes this will help the profile of their pepper products and native foods in general as well as help introduce visitors to the art and science of essential oils.

Chris retains an interest in horticultural research through his role as chair of the Tasmanian Essential Oil Producers group – NPE Coop Soc (?) which collects and administers a levy fund, used to develop research projects with funding from RIRDC and other commercial partners.

Mike Qualmby

Mike Qualmby, based at Reedy Creek Nursery in the south-east of South Australia, has qualifications in Agronomy and Business Management and has had 40 years experience in large scale commercial horticulture with extensive experience in Australian native flora.

Areas of expertise are include commercial plant propagation, cut flower production, fresh produce production and marketing and over the past 7 years he has together with wife Gayle, set up the Outback Pride project. This project has assisted the inclusion of aboriginal community participation in the Australian Native Food Industry and at the same time while acknowledging the intellectual property of the traditional uses of bush foods and providing employment and training in horticulture.

Mike has developed systems and equipment designed and built for economy of labour, plant health and efficient water use for numerous native food species. He has also developed best practice guidelines in the areas of post harvest handling, transport, storage and end use value adding of Australian Native bushfoods. The end use value-added products are available under the brand name 'Outback Pride'. The supply chain for Outback Café is through the Outback Pride project.

Rus Glover

Russell Glover is a partner in Woolgoolga Rainforest Products, a business that specialises in the commercial production of Riberries, Aniseed myrtle, Lemon Aspen, Davidson Plums and Native Tamarind on the north coast of NSW. The business has been established for seven years and was set up to provide year-round reliable supply of Australian native produce. He owns and manages Glovers Tubes that grows native tubestock, particularly fruit species and aims to select and breed better commercial varieties.

Rus is a Director of Galeru Pty Ltd, a Company of four growers from northern NSW and south-east Qld that use the Value chain system to market their products, mainly Syzygium species.

Rus is also the Australian Government NRM Sustainable Resource Management Facilitator for NSW, working as part of the joint NRM Team between the federal Departments of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, and Environment and Water Resources.

From a farming and horticultural background, Rus is passionate about the growing and the use of native foods and developing a clean and green production system to supply a mainstream native food industry. This requires a whole of industry approach to developing an industry body that can build on the work already contributed to by many and provide representation for the different sectors involved and needed to keep the industry progressing.
