Brendon Baker

Brendon is a specialist in Geographical Information Systems
and Landscape Ecology and has postgraduate qualifications
in Environmental Law. His work in this project included biophysical
assessment, legal reviews and workshop facilitation.

Guy is a landscape ecologist with skills in the rehabilitation
of damaged lands, particularly those affected by dryland salinity
and mining activities. His current research interests include
the application of ecological knowledge to the design and
construction of sustainable human habitat.

Margaret's interests include integrated data management (relational
database and GIS), metadata, data model design, database design,
experimental design, survey design, prediction of both plant
and animal distributions (spatial and temporal), generalised
linear and additive predictive modelling, systems modelling,
pattern analysis, scale issues.

Tim Ferraro
Workshop Facilitator
Tim is currently Executive Officer of WEST 2000/WEST 2000
Plus which are rural partnership programs operating in the
Western Division of NSW. Interests are Integrated Catchment
Management, Rangeland Management and Community Change/Capacity
Building.

Julian Gorman
Project Support
Julian's interests include: sustainable use of rangelands
and tropical savannas; impacts of climate change;ã sustainable
harvesting of flora and fauna; development of plant industry
enterprises in Aboriginal communities; and landscape health.

Russel Harland
Workshop Facilitator
Russel Harland, a key member of the team, died suddenly in
November 2002. Our friend and colleague was a rangeland ecologist
with nearly two decades experience in the Western Division.
He was active in regional and catchment planning for DLWC
and maintained a strong involvement in community programs
such as Property Management Planning, Landcare, Rivercare
and Waterwatch. We miss him.

Mark has extensive experience in ecosystem dynamics, simulation
modelling of grazing and cropping systems, global change impacts
and adaptation, greenhouse gas emission assessment and mitigation,
development of new approaches to manage climate variability.

Collaborating Researcher and Facilitator Land Use Planning
The focus of John's work is to extend broad base land use
planning principles to assist land managers integrate non-productive
an productive land uses. This achieves reductions in environmental
degradation and facilitates more sustainable production systems.

Art is a specialist in Geographic Information Systems and
Satellite Remote Sensing. He maintains an active interest
in complex adaptive systems and conservation ecology.

Collaborating Researcher Carbon Modelling
Steve has an extensive background in rangeland research.
His speciality is simulation modelling of semi-arid grazing
systems and he has been involved in a project looking at total
grazing pressure in the rangelands.

Terry has a strong background in rangeland ecology and biodiversity.
He has a particular interest in the frogs and reptiles of
the semi-arid areas of NSW. He is currently the ecologist
for the Far West Region (Western Division) of the NSW Department
of Land and Water Conservation.

Dee is a training consultant within the Natural Resource
Management unit of NSW Department of Land and Water Conservation.

Nick is particularly interested in the impacts of management
practices on species survival. He has skills in experimental
and survey design and statistical analysis across a wide range
of biological communities.

Robert has a background in arid zone ecology and more recently
has worked on projects looking at the relationships between
wildlife and remnant vegetation. He has now taken up the position
as Collection Manager of the Australian National Wildlife
Collection.

Jen is the Executive Officer for the Barwon-Darling River
Management Committee, as part of the NSW Water Reform program.
Her interests include communications, Catchment Management
and community consultation.

Jacqui has a strong background in arid zone vegetation as
well as a general depth of experience in rangeland ecosystems.
She recently worked on a project looking at the impacts of
artificial water sources on biodiversity in Australia's rangelands.

Bill Tatnell
Core Researcher
Bill's started his career investigating the ecological control
of rabbits. He has a long involvement with the Western Division
and DLWC, experience which proved useful in his role as the
Regional Manager for the Division. He is presently concentrating
his efforts as a Landscape Manager in the Lower Murray Darling.

Mandy's interests are in participatory research,
applied research projects, data storage and management. She
has a background in nutritional analyses particularly of native
vegetation and fungi.
